Lost
Animal Prevention
By Lorelei Hunt
If any of you folks out there have ever had an accidental
pet poisoning then you know exactly what I have gone through recently.
My mistake was not that I left out a bottle of yummy prescription doggie
medicine where they could reach it. My mistake was that my relationship
with my animals is so open and comfortable that I forgot that in many
ways that they have the mentality of a child.
I came home one Friday to find the
bottle of Deramaxx (with the child-proof cap) on the floor with t he top of the bottle torn off.
Both Libby and Kelsey, my wonderful black labbies, were dancing around as if nothing had
happened. My hands were shaking as I called the emergency vet (number is always on the
refrigerator). Here is another number that you should have on your
refrigerator: 888-426-4435, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center
Hotline. Apparently Deramaxx poisoning is very common and within
minutes a vet was consulted and I was informed that even if each dog ate
half the number of pills, they both would have received toxic doses and
would need immediate attention. They offered instructions to help me
make them vomit at home (using hydrogen peroxide) but mentioned that in
order to avoid kidney failure I would need to get them to a vet for
treatment afterward. Rather than possibly waste time making them vomit
ineffectively, I threw them in the car and headed to the emergency vet.
After vomiting, 3 rounds of charcoal, 3 days of constant IV
fluids in the care of the emergency vet, I am happy to tell you that
both Libby and Kelsey are home and life is getting back to normal. For
two weeks they will be taking more medication to ensure that their
tummies and intestines heal properly. My vet worked closely with the
Animal Poison Control Center to follow the protocols necessary for
Deramaxx poisoning.
Dear clients
and friends, if I can help prevent even just one of you from going
through the same experience, something good will come out of mine.
Please ensure that all medication is out of reach. Don’t assume that
your animal won’t get into it even if it’s child-proof or “they have
never done anything like that before”. Take a peek at the ASPCA Poison
Control Center on the internet for tips on how to poison-proof your home
(www.aspca.org
then choose Animal Poison Control Center). Blessings to you and your
animals.

your ability to communicate with animals. You will enhance your relationship with your
animal friends and better understand their needs, feelings, behavior, and problems. The
workshop will help you recognize times you have already experienced telepathic
communication with animals. You will:
- Participate in exercises and meditations which increase your receptivity to telepathic
communication.
- Learn how to quiet and focus your mind.
- Practice sending and receiving telepathic communications first with a human
partner, then with animals.
Our animal friends will not be needed in person at these
workshops. Please bring photographs
of living animals to the
workshop. The photos do not have to be recent or clear, but they must be of your own
animals or animals you know very well.
This workshop was first developed by Penelope Smith, a pioneer in animal
communications. It has been successfully taught to thousands. Penelope has authorized
Lorelei Hunt to teach her techniques.

PET GRIEF WORKSHOP
Grieving
over the death of a loved one is not only normal, but also healthy and necessary. However,
our society often views grieving over the loss of a pet as something childish. This
dichotomy means that expressed feelings over the loss of a pet often go un-validated,
leaving the bereaved embarrassed and ashamed. Pet loss is, in truth, a unique form of grief. "It can be
quite intense and debilitating, increasing an individuals vulnerability to
subsequent stress and leaving him/her feeling isolated and misunderstood." (Ross,
Baron-Sorensen, 1998)
Designed to aide the mourning pet owner and the pet owner
preparing to lose a beloved friendDesigned to aide the mourning pet owner and the pet owner
preparing to lose a beloved friend, this workshop will let you know that you are not
alone. We will discuss many of the questions surrounding pet loss emotionally, physically,
spiritually, practically, and, even, scripturally. We will discuss how death affects both
humans and other pets, and what animals can teach us about death, dying, and beyond.
This workshop has been developed by Lorelei Hunt, a
professional animal communicator, and E. Talley Brown, a Ph.D. candidate in Metaphysics
with a concentration in animal cognition. Both women have dealt far too often with
societys misconceptions regarding pet loss, and are ready to educate people about
the human-animal bond.
